weekend perks!

You're planning on watching the MTV Movie Awards to wait for the Perks of Being a Wallflower trailer, right? Because I am!

I read this book back in 1999(!) and have been in love with it and waiting for a movie ever since. I'm so, so, so excited to finally get a glimpse of it and can't wait until it's out!

I went on a super quick road trip to near Dallas Thursday-Friday (the overall trip was quick - the driving was 9+ hours!) and wrote about it on my other blog. Click over for a few funny pictures, a hotel recommendation, and weekend plans.

baz's gatsby

Have you seen the trailer for The Great Gatsby film that's due out later this year?

No? Watch:

I think it's weird, but pretty. Baz Luhrmann made Moulin Rouge (also weird/pretty!) and the Romeo + Juliet of my teen years (also starring Leo!), so it could be crazy-good or too huge of a change from the Robert Redford classic for me to fall for its intended appeal.

Also: I'm not a big fan of Tobey Maguire. I don't think Leo is nearly as attractive as young Robert Redford.  And Carey Mulligan isn't nearly as charming as I think she's intended to be. (Um, anyone see An Education? They should've titled it A Complete Lack of Education, because the girl didn't learn anything! Snooze.)

And! If you haven't read the book... read it first! (And pledge to at Read it 1st!) You could also watch John Green's fantastic videos on the book (as you read!) and get way more out of it the first time around than I did when reading under the guidance of an apathetic lit teacher in high school.

Thoughts? Will you go to the theater or wait for it at home? Or skip it completely?

Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill - As I mentioned in my previous post, I am in love with this book. I got it in the mail & read it immediately. Make a note of it -- it's out later this year.

Annnnnd, I've started a little project involving needing to read some more novels in verse, so I ordered these:

The Geography of Girlhood by Kirsten Smith
After the Kiss by Terra Elan McVoy
The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder

What about you?

I dropped by a Borders yesterday to see what was left on their very last day and left with a basket full of books. I got 17 books for $70! (Let's pretend that's not depressing at all, considering I'd rather bookstores not close at all.)

The YA...

Real Live Boyfriends (Ruby Oliver #4) by E. Lockhart
Rumors (Luxe #2) by Anna Godbersen
Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie by David Lubar
Sorta Like a Rock Star by Matthew Quick
Moonglass by Jessi Kirby
The Education of Hailey Kendrick by Eileen Cook
Fixing Delilah by Sarah Ockler

And the non-YA...

Mad Men: The Illustrated World by Dyna Moe
Renegade: The Making of a President by Richard Wolffe
The Little Women Letters by Gabrielle Donnelly
My Year with Eleanor by Noelle Hancock
Go Fug Yourself: The Fug Awards by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan
It Sucked and Then I Cried by Heather Armstrong
I Know I Am, But What Are You? by Samantha Bee
The Wilder Life by Wendy McClure
Going in Circles by Pamela Ribon
Commencement by J. Courtney Sullivan

I got a pile of books this week... mostly due to the Barnes & Noble bargain section on their website. The Friday Night Lights anthology was a must-have due to my undying love for the show.

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson - Will finally read this after many recommendations!
A Friday Night Lights Companion by various authors (edited by Leah Wilson) - A collection of essays on the show. Robin Benway (of Audrey, Wait! one of my favorites) tweeted about contributing and I knew I had to have it.
Going in Circles by Pamela Ribon - Not YA, but about ROLLER DERBY.
Confessions of a First Daughter by Cassidy Calloway - I'm a PoliSci major. Enough said.
Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson - This came out forever ago and somehow I've never read it.
Confessions of a Serial Kisser by Wendelin Van Draanen - Sounds light & fun.
Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King - A Printz Honor Book! Have been wanting to read this for months and will do so very soon.

I'm super late posting this today, so I'll be checking out mailboxes tomorrow. Hope you got something good!

The Sweetest Thing by Christina Mandelski - I was interested in this book when I first heard about it months ago, then I met the author at the Sarah Dessen signing last week and realized she's local and snapped up a copy the very next day. Yay, Texas!

Waterfall by Lisa T. Bergren - Thanks to Savannah from Books With Bite for allowing me to take part in this book tour! I've already finished reading it and will post the review this week. (Hint: I've got to get my hands on book 2!)

But I Love Him by Amanda Grace - I've read her other novels (published under Mandy Hubbard), so I thought I'd give this one a go... Haven't started it yet because I haven't been up for what I imagine is a rough read. I bet it's good, though.

I'm off to check out other mailboxes. What'd you get?

FYI: There's a giveaway post going up this morning, so check for that, because it might be there right this very second, waiting for you to enter!

Hourglass by Myra McEntire - The cover alone made me want to read this the second I saw it, and the synopsis made me pre-order. Very much looking forward to reading this!

Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma - Another pre-order that arrived this week. I'm currently reading it... It's taking me longer than usual and I'm either confused or very curious. Looking forward to seeing how it wraps up.

Shut Out by Kody Keplinger - This one's not due out until September, so I'm VERY thankful to Ginger at GReads for loaning it to me!

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen - Just had to get the new paperback...

What Happened to Goodbye
by Sarah Dessen - I bought a second copy at the Sarah Dessen event on Friday and got it signed to giveaway here when I post the review (so be sure follow the blog or twitter if you want to know when the giveaway is posted).

Now I'm off to check out other mailboxes. What'd you get?

My very first IN MY MAILBOX post!

Milkrun by Sarah Mlynowski - After reading (and reviewing) Gimme a Call, I knew I had to get my hands on some more Sarah M.

The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May, & June by Robin Benway - Couldn't resist the paperback.

Watch Me by Lauren Barnholdt - I've never read anything by Lauren Barnholdt and I feel out of the loop. I have this one, a few other paperbacks, and some ebooks on my Nook waiting to catch me up.

My Life Undecided by Jessica Brody - I snagged this as soon as it released this week. The review will go up on Tuesday. (Hint: It's a good one!)

Like Mandarin by Kirsten Hubbard - After reading Kirsten's an extremely honest and scary post (about debuting as a midlist author & how hard it is) on Monday, I had to bump her book to the top of to-buy list and got it the next day.

I'm off to check out other mailboxes. What's in yours?
