MEANT TO BE by Lauren Morrill

“I don't use airplane bathrooms. As a rule. And I really don't like breaking rules. (It's kind of one of my rules.) I mean, if I'm going to plummet to my death, it's notgoing to be with my pants around my ankles.”

MEANT TO BE by Lauren Morrill
YA - Hardcover, 304 pages
Published November 13, 2012 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers

It's one thing to fall head over heels into a puddle of hazelnut coffee, and quite another to fall for the—gasp—wrong guy. Straight-A junior Julia may be accident prone, but she's queen of following rules and being prepared. That's why she keeps a pencil sharpener in her purse and a pocket Shakespeare in her, well, pocket. And that's also why she's chosen Mark Bixford, her childhood crush, as her MTB ("meant to be").

But this spring break, Julia's rules are about to get defenestrated (SAT word: to be thrown from a window) when she's partnered with her personal nemesis, class-clown Jason, on a school trip to London. After one wild party, Julia starts receiving romantic texts . . . from an unknown number! Jason promises to help discover the identity of her mysterious new suitor if she agrees to break a few rules along the way. And thus begins a wild goose chase through London, leading Julia closer and closer to the biggest surprise of all: true love.

Because sometimes the things you least expect are the most meant to be.

MEANT TO BE is out TOMORROW! (Yay, Lauren!)

Lauren was super awesome and sent me an ARC months & months ago. I read it one night, and then sent it on a little mini-tour to the houses of my most-trusted book blogging friends (since I wanted it back in fantastic condition, of course). It's her first book and you should definitely snag a copy so she gets to keep writing more! (There's a second book on deck called Being Sloane Jacobs, and you can mark it to-read on Goodreads already!)

So, what's the book like? Well... if you're a fan of cute, quick-paced, funny, set-in-London contemporary, it's for you! As I was reading, slightly nerdy Julia and the dialogue gave me a total Gilmore Girls feeling, which is always welcome -- love the banter!

Meant To Be comes complete with the quirky girl you'll root for, a boy you'll wonder about, and a setting you'll love -- LONDON! A class trip that gets the feeling of the city right (at least from this visitor's perspective), a few female classmates that will make you want to roll your eyes or punch them in the face, and Julia's transformation while she's far away from home? Yes, please!

And, oh, there is THE AWKWARD. Julia's got a crush & she's sort of like this around him...

(Except he's doing less "sexy" dancing.)

Meant To Be is fun, cute with serious moments, and takes you outside of the States. Julia is a girl you'll relate to or remember from high school, and Jason is... I'm not telling. Read it!

FYI: I'M GIVING AWAY A COPY OF THE BOOK! CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS.

“Oh God, unattractive and pompous. A winning combination. My inner control panel is screaming ABORT! ABORT!”
