Georgetown Academy, Washington D.C.'s most elite prep school, is filled with the children of every major player in politics. Think Gossip Girl meets The West Wing, if they'd followed Zoey Bartlet to high school.

The story rotates between the points-of-view of four girls: Ellie Walker, who's dating the JFK of GA and is the daughter of a Senator; Brinley, a Madison and the top of the social food chain; Evan, one of the few students without political parents and Ellie's former BFF; and Taryn, the new girl from California who's an outsider to D.C. politics. The political parents of the GA kids are worried about their private lives staying private above all else. And there are plenty of secrets to try to keep under wraps!

As if that's not enough to get you reading, this isn't your average book. It's a modern day version of choose-your-own-adventure, where the story outcome doesn't change with every good (or bad) choice, but the information you have on each character depends on whose point-of-view you choose. At the end of chapter five, this message appears: "It's Rookie Party time! Which girl do you want to follow for the night?" And gives you links to the girls whose version of the party you can read. Clicking each name brings up a different version of chapter six, and at the end of each one, you get the option to move onto chapter seven or go back and read a different girl's perspective of the party. I read them all, and you probably should, too. A few of the details get redundant (because some things have to be mentioned in each chapter to keep the story straight, assuming you might only read one), but they each have their own independent pieces of the story you'd miss out on by skipping over any of the girls. Ellie's chapter is a must-read, Brinley's gives you major insight into her mean girl persona, Evan provides a view of the party from a girl who's never been to one before, and Taryn's chapter six shows how the new girl is working to make her own path at GA.

Book 1 of Georgetown Academy is a quick read, at 9 chapters that add up to be 118 pages long. It ends on an "OHMYGOD!" moment that will have you scrambling for the next one, just like a cliffhanger on your favorite show. I know I am.

  1. You had me at "It's a modern day version of choose-your-own-adventure"! I loved those books. Well, that and the fact that I went to school in DC and I'd love to revisit the city, fictionally speaking.
